A Tyrrhenian-coast town known for the Terme Luigiane, among Calabria’s most popular spa stations.
Acquappesa is a town of about 1,700 inhabitants in the province of Cosenza, with about 6 km of coast; it includes the hamlets of Terme Luigiane, Intavolata, Castagnola and Marina.
Geography
The territory faces the Tyrrhenian Sea and hosts one of the region’s best-known thermal stations.
History
In 1927 Acquappesa was merged with Guardia Piemontese (Guardia Piemontese Terme) and regained autonomy in 1945. The thermal spring, known since antiquity, is also recalled in the municipal coat of arms.
What to see
The Terme Luigiane, with their sulphurous waters, are among Calabria’s most popular spa stations; several Giro d’Italia stages have finished there.
Getting there
By car via the A2 “del Mediterraneo” motorway; by train on the Tyrrhenian railway line; the nearest airport is Lamezia Terme.
