Sangineto

Sangineto is a town of about 1,200 inhabitants in the province of Cosenza, with two cores: the hilltop old centre and the Lido (Le Crete), near the sea along the SS18 road.

The historic village sits on the hill, while the coastal hamlet of Sangineto Lido lies along the SS18 road.
History
The Angevin castle was built by the Sanseverino princes of Bisignano in the second half of the 15th century, with a rectangular plan and a wide arcade; in its courtyard grows an olive tree planted by Austrian prisoners on 4 November 1918.
What to see
Besides the castle, worth visiting are the parish church of Santa Maria della Neve, dating to 1200, with a 17th-century portal, and the Convent of San Francesco di Paola.

By car via the A2 “del Mediterraneo” motorway; by train on the Tyrrhenian railway line; the nearest airport is Lamezia Terme.
