Torre Talao

An islet and 16th-century tower on the Scalea coast, a historic natural landing; its caves preserve traces of the Palaeolithic.

Scalea

The islet of Torre Talao is one of the landmarks of the Scalea coast: it has always been an ideal landing and “scalo” for boats. The historian Lorenzo Giustiniani, in 1802, recalled a tower built here on a small peninsula in the time of Charles V, armed with three cannon.

The site has far older roots: during archaeological excavations, stone and bone tools from the Palaeolithic were found in the caves of Torre Talao, together with remains of Pleistocene fauna.
