How we work: the ALTICOS editorial method
ALTICOS is an editorial guide to the Upper Tyrrhenian Cosentino coast, the Riviera dei Cedri in the province of Cosenza, Calabria. Every entry rests on facts checked against open sources and on text we write ourselves. Here is how.
What ALTICOS is
We are neither an encyclopaedia nor an “everything for everyone” portal: we select the places worth the trip and organise them into ready-made itineraries. Today the site covers 24 towns between the coast and the Pollino National Park, 70 places with their own entry and 14 multi-day itineraries, in ten languages.
We always name the area by its umbrella name, the Upper Tyrrhenian Cosentino coast, alongside the familiar Riviera dei Cedri and the local place name: the destination should be recognisable as one place, not a list of municipalities.
Checked facts, original writing
Every factual statement (dates, distances, names, stations, borders) comes from traceable open sources: OpenStreetMap, Wikidata, Wikivoyage and Wikipedia. The sources used for each entry are kept in its source bundle and declared in the page’s structured data (the sameAs property), where search engines and AI assistants can read them.
Before publication each entry passes a closed-book review: a reviewer checks that every fact is covered by the sources and that the text is original writing, not a copy or a close paraphrase. Only entries that pass go live; the verification date is shown on the page.
The tone is evocative but sober: no unverifiable superlatives, no “paradise” or “the most beautiful”. If a fact cannot be documented, we simply do not write it.
What you will not find, and why
We do not publish volatile data such as timetables, prices, fares and opening hours: they change too often to be reliable in a static guide. For trains, flights and services we point to the official operators (Trenitalia, Lamezia Terme airport, the municipalities).
We do not store reviews or ratings of businesses: where useful we only link to the live Google Maps or Booking pages, so the judgement stays current and is not ours.
Images and businesses
Photographs come from Wikimedia Commons under free licences: author and licence are always shown next to the image, because attribution is both an obligation and a mark of respect for those who took them.
Businesses (stay, eat, beach clubs, nightlife) are kept clearly separate from editorial content. There are three tiers: plain listings from OpenStreetMap (name, address, map), the free “In the guide” programme and “Featured” entries, which are declared, recognisable advertising. No partner influences which places we select or what the entries say.
Artificial intelligence and people
We use AI in the newsroom to draft text anchored to the sources and, in the trip builder, to assemble itineraries from verified places only: the AI invents neither places nor facts, and every draft is reviewed by a person before publication.
ALTICOS is run by Pierquinto Manco (site owner; full details in the privacy notice). Found a mistake or something out of date? Write to us: we correct it and show the new verification date.
