Towers of Bonifati

Five centuries of towers in Bonifati: the Torre del Capo (12th century), the Torre Parise (15th), the Torre di Fella and the Torre di Porta Malvitana (16th) and the vanished Torre del Telegrafo, which named a district of Cittadella del Capo.

Bonifati

The towers of Bonifati span five centuries, from the 12th to the 16th. The oldest is the Torre del Capo, dated to the 12th century, whose name recalls the Capo that also names Cittadella del Capo and the Palazzo del Capo. Then come the 15th-century Torre Parise and the 16th-century Torre di Fella, which bears the name of the Greek colony with which Cittadella is identified; it was in the 16th century that Fella was taken by the Turks of Barbarossa. The Torre del Telegrafo was also from the 16th century: today it is destroyed, but it left its name to the Telegrafo district, on Cittadella del Capo’s coastal strip. From the same century, in the hilltop village, comes the Torre di Porta Malvitana, found among the palazzi of the old town. Cittadella del Capo, with Capo Bonifati station, is the starting point for those arriving from the coast.
