Island of Dino
The island off Praia a Mare, one of only two islands in Calabria, famous for its sea caves and myrtle.
The island of Dino rises off the Fiuzzi area, closing the bay of Praia a Mare to the south, and belongs to the town. Together with the island of Cirella, further south at Diamante, it is one of only two islands in Calabria.
Its cliffs are carved by sea caves reached by boat. The most famous are the Grotta Azzurra, named after the intense colour of the water inside, and the Grotta del Leone, where a rock recalls a lying lion. Myrtle grows abundantly on the island, and in recent years the Praia community has begun to cultivate and process it. The Torre di Fiuzzi, on the cliff opposite, offers the best view of the island.
