Aieta is a small town of about 700 inhabitants in the province of Cosenza, a mountain village a short distance from the Tyrrhenian Sea.
Geography
The territory is part of the Pollino National Park and rises to Monte Ciagola, at 1,463 metres. Though not far from the sea, Aieta preserves typically mountain cultural and culinary traditions.
History
For centuries Aieta included present-day Praia a Mare, which was its maritime hamlet until 1928.
Getting there
By car via the A2 “del Mediterraneo” motorway; by train on the Tyrrhenian railway line; the nearest airport is Lamezia Terme.
